Schedule of Visits

4-6 wks EGA

Appointment to confirm pregnancy (blood pregnancy test) and answer pregnancy related questions.

8 wks EGA

Sonogram to confirm viable pregnancy

11-13 wks EGA

Appointment with physician. Appointment will consist of pelvic exam, vaginal cultures, Pap smear, blood work and hearing fetal heart rate with Doppler.

Optional First Trimester Screening (Nuchal Translucency) which includes a sonogram with the sonographer and a blood test (PAPPa) to screen for Down Syndrome, Trisomy 13 and Trisomy 18.

Optional procedure called CVS for patients over age 35. It is a diagnostic test to rule-out chromosomal abnormalities. We do not perform in our office. Patients to schedule their appointment with Dr. Pinckert, Dr.Gallagher or Dr. Matia (301) 279-6060.

16 wks EGA

Appointment with physician and optional bloodwork to screen for Spina Bifida (serum AFP).

16-18 wks EGA

Optional procedure called Amniocentesis for patients over age 35 to screen for chromosomal abnormalities. It can be scheduled in our office.

20 wks EGA

Appointment with physician.

Sonogram with sonographer for detailed Level II OB to evaluate for fetal anatomy.

24 wks EGA

Appointment with physician

If planning on taking prenatal classes, please call to register. We recommend classes with either registered nurses Jessica Webb (540)272-1057 or Juliana Parker (240)418-2240.

28 wks EGA

Appointment with physician as well as bloodwork to screen for gestational diabetes (1 hour glucola). Patients that have negative blood type will receive Rhogam

30-36 wks EGA

Appointment with physician every two weeks.

Start looking for pediatrician -- Referral list in OB packet.

36-40 wks EGA

Appointment with physician every week. Office visit will include a vaginal exam to check cervical dilatation and perform a GBS vaginal culture at 36 weeks.

Patients over age 40 will start getting antenatal testing to assess fetal well being. Patients will either get NST/AFI weekly with physician or weekly BPP with sonographer.

If not delivered around due date, physicians will discuss possible induction around 41 weeks and date will be scheduled at hospital.

40+ wks EGA

Fetal non-stress test (NST), amniotic fluid index (AFI)

Induction of labor
